Town Council Team
St Ives Town Council operates from St Ives Town Hall on Market Hill in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, where our team and councillors strive to make our town a better place to live, work and visit.
The team of officers based at the Town Hall is headed by the Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.
St Ives Town Council has 24 members of staff which includes full-time and part-time employees. Staff are split between the Town Hall and the Norris Museum. Staff structure as at October 2024.
Town Hall
Town Clerk
The Town Clerk is a full-time post whose full job title is ‘Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer’. They are the Council’s principal official known as the ‘Proper Officer’. Their main role is to advise the Council; ensure decisions are lawful; and to implement those decisions. The Town Clerk is also responsible for the financial affairs of the Council – managing its budget and ensuring internal controls are in place to safeguard its funds and assets. They also act as the Line Manager for the other staff. The Town Clerk works closely together with the Town Mayor and other Councillors on an almost daily basis.
Administration Officer
Working closely with all Officers, the Administration Officer carries out administration tasks, meets and greets visitors to the Town Hall, answers queries from residents via the telephone, social media and email. They also provide support to the Democratic Officer with meeting preparation and updating the website and social media where required. The Administration Officer is also our main contact for booking the Burleigh Hill Community Centre. Should you wish to book this facility, please email [email protected]
Cemeteries Officer
Our Cemeteries Officer is the first point of contact for bereaved families, via undertakers, and is responsible for maintaining all records linked to our cemeteries both open and closed. They are the also responsible for the sale of burial plots, installation of memorials and liaise regularly with our Grounds Maintenance Team on the general upkeep of the grounds.
Civic Officer
The Civic Officer is responsible for managing the civic diary and ensuring the Mayor is where they should be, when they should be. In addition to this, they also make all the arrangements for Civic and Charity events linked to the Town Council.
Democratic Officer
The Democratic Officer supports the Town Clerk in preparation of agendas, papers and minutes for Council and Committee meetings.
Facilities Manager
The Facilities Manager is responsible for all our Town Council owned buildings, open spaces and management of the Grounds Maintenance Team. The role ensures that compliance is adhered with in terms of asset control, health and safety, playground inspections, etc. Management of the allotments comes under this role to ensure that the area provided is a calming environment for those wishing to work outdoors.
Finance Officer
Working closely with the Town Clerk, the Finance Officer is responsible for the day to day book keeping and balancing of the books, along with pulling together all reports for council members to consider. They act as the administrative element of both the Farmers’ Market and Allotments.
St Ives Cares Project Co-ordinator
The St Ives Cares Project aims to set up a neighbourhood based support scheme for adults in the community who may be at risk of isolation and/or loneliness. It has been identified that these members of our community may benefit from additional community support by utilising existing community groups and mobilising local volunteers.
Grounds Maintenance Team
Grounds Maintenance Supervisor
The Supervisor for the Grounds Maintenance Team is the link between the Town Hall and the Grounds Maintenance Team. Their role is to ensure that all the duties of the team are carried out as required.
Grounds Maintenance Operatives
There are currently three operatives supporting the Supervisor to ensure that the horticultural and other duties required in the town’s open spaces are carried out. Duties are varied but on the whole you will find the team at various locations around the town including, but not limited to, Slepe Hall Field, Warner’s Park, The Waits, allotments, Hill Rise Cemetery and play areas.
