Mayor Philip Pope

On 10^th May 2023 the annual Mayor Making event was held at the St Ives Corn Exchange. Mayor Philip Pope was elected for his second consecutive term as the Town Mayor, and third term in total.

Councillor Craig Smith, who currently serves as a town councillor for the North Ward, was elected as the Deputy Mayor. Over 150 people were in attendance.

The Mayor's Role

The Mayor's term of office is twelve months, during which time the Mayor will have a very busy schedule working with the local community.

It’s not all about appearing at Civic events, the role also involves raising awareness of local groups, helping to promote the Town, arranging fund raising events to support local Charities and organisations, as well as continuing to work for the Community in the capacity of Town Councillor.

Mayor Making 2024

On Thursday 23rd of May 2024 the Mayor Making of St Ives Town Council took place at the Burgess Hall. Councillor Pasco Hussain was sworn in as the new Mayor for 2024/25. Before this however, outgoing Mayor Phillip Pope handed out numerous awards and donations to charity (see below).

Hidden Gem of St Ives Award shining a spotlight on the underappreciated and under-recognised groups and/or areas of beauty within our borders: Awarded to Friends of Hold Island Nature Reserve and collected by Ian Jackson. Hidden Gem of St Ives
Care in the Community Award to a group who demonstrate selflessness, kindness and compassion whilst improving other people’s quality of life: Awarded to Dementia Friendly Community and accepted by Roger Kuch and Agi Peach.
Volunteer of the Year Award for a group or individual who encompass St Ives key values including integrity, kindness, support and goodwill without prejudice: Awarded to Ladybird Boat Trust, accepted by John Clarke and Andy Nicol. Volunteer of the Year

The Town Mayor noted that through the year he had managed to raise £14,476.40 for his chosen charities. Cheque presentations were made as follows:
